  • Implementation Schedule Still unresolved
  • HMO San Juan Rebate
  • New Auto-Docking System Reminder

We continue to await a set implementation schedule from the Company. Members of the HMO Humana in San Juan will receive a rebate in accordance with the Affordable Care Act. Also, a reminder from the Central Air Safety Committee regarding the new Auto-Docking system.

From The Chairman

Fellow American Eagle Pilots,

In the weeks since the ratification of our Tentative Agreement, the company has been working on an implementation schedule. I understand this is a topic of great concern for all Eagle pilots but it still remains to be resolved, largely for two reasons.

First, and most obvious, we continue to await final approval of our ratified agreement by the bankruptcy court.  Second, many of the ratified contract changes require either new  or altered software.

We do know that the company has identified Personal Time Off as the highest priority item for implementation on the first of the New Year.

We will continue to push management to set and share an implementation timeline with specific dates for every item contained in the agreement.

Humana HMO: San Juan

This week we received the following information from Company HR:

American Eagle employees enrolled in the Humana HMO in San Juan will be eligible for a refund because a provision of the Affordable Care Act requires plans to spend at least 85% of premiums collected from the insured on actual health care expenses.   Humana of Puerto Rico did not comply with this provision, and thus by law, have sent a rebate to American Eagle Airlines, the HMO policyholder, the extra premiums.

American Eagle will refund a portion of this rebate to all employees who are enrolled in this HMO.  Amounts distributed will be commensurate to the employee cost share of the premium (30% of total cost of the annual HMO premium for Full Time Employees and 50% for Part Time Ground Employees).

Impacted employees will see the amount as a one-time paycheck credit in November, which is taxable income. The table below represents all employees enrolled in each HMO and reflects the amount that they will receive based on their full-time or part-time status.

The table below shows the credit that will be applied.  This is not a precedent setting method, as Health Care Reform implementation is progressing and current provisions are subject to change in the future.

We have asked several questions regarding the number of pilots who will receive refunds, the calculations that were performed and the period during which Humana Puerto Rico did not comply with the Affordable Care Act.  We will update you when we receive that information.

Auto-Docking Reminder

With the approval of auto-docking, the pilot becomes fully responsible for obstacle avoidance during the parking procedure. As part of the auto-docking procedure, “pilots are to make a visual check of the gate area to be sure it is clear of obstructions in the painted obstacle-free area.”

Currently what constitutes an “obstacle” has not be defined. Therefore, until clarification of what items can be within the painted obstacle-free area is provided, all items within this area are to be considered obstacles. This includes chocks, PCA hoses, and orange safety stanchions.

We are working with the DFW Chief Pilot’s office and have management’s support to hold short of the gate area until the obstacle-free area is completely clear. We expect further clarification from management shortly.
